Healer

Conduits for one another’s healing is what Carolyn Renée considers each of us to be. She says that “The more I peel away the transient parts of myself and rebuild myself to be more loving and kind towards others; I reveal the truth of my soul.” In 2008 she became a health and wellness practitioner to heal herself from a serious illness, which years later has led to combining her passions of wellness and the arts. In the early days of the pandemic at the height of the unrest, Carolyn Renée co-created a safe space specifically for black and brown people by way of The Sacred Space Holding for BIPOC. This sacred space uses InterPlay to co-create among those present, a safe space to playfully dance with joys, pains, and sorrows.

Wellness Educator

In the field of art and wellness,  Carolyn Renée has had the privilege of leading in both the nonprofit arts sector and the wellness sector. Educating others about wellness is a passion, and as a Wellness Educator with USA/Ghana-based A Life of Peace Wellness Education Institute, she teaches Reiki, Iridology, Detox Therapy, and Natural Health and Wellness Consultancy. Her wellness spark ignited a passionate one-woman play, Womb Creations: Journey to Love Catalyst for Change a City of Atlanta-funded artist project. With this project, Carolyn Renée shared with audiences a personal journey of healing her womb through expressed creativity. She now helps women tap into their power and remove creative blocks. With her follow-up play The Mother Daughter Dialogues she created community circles of mothers and daughters, including her own to share personal stories about their journey as mothers and daughters. The writing of the play was a gift to both herself and many other mothers and daughters. The play was a catalyst for healing

Artist • Activist

Growing up in the US north and south and experiencing racism, discrimination, and other forms of oppression firsthand, Carolyn Renée learned how to use the arts to address issues of racism and other forms of oppression. She is a part-time member of artEquity, a nonprofit art and social change nonprofit based in Pasadena, CA. Carolyn Renee encourages those who care deeply about creating a more equitable field of play for artists, activists, and cultural organizations to learn more about the work of artEquity. This is a wonderful resource for artists, especially black artists who have traditionally been denied access, marginalized and uninvited to the table.

Certified InterPlay Leader

InterPlay is an active, creative way to unlock the wisdom of the body. Through InterPlay Carolyn Renee learned to be less serious.

In her own words, “As a former HR professional, providing resources like grief counseling to employees was just part of my job. After a devasting loss of a key tenured worker, I set up grief counseling for dozens of employees and had not handled my own grief in the process. The next day I was invited to an InterPlay session and ironically they were playing with the Day of the Dead (DOD), as it was November when DOD is traditionally observed. Using one of the InterPlay forms Dance on Behalf Off (DOBO), I got what was needed to address my grief and I also understood the power of InterPlay! Since then I have created InterPlay workshops and series for the homeless community, for youth and elders, and workshops to purely play. I now use InterPlay to convene groups all over the world through PoPUpZ! PoPUpZ (Power of Play Upliftment Portal on Zoom) was created to encourage more play in the world! As a recovering serious person and a black woman overcoming trauma, playing has offered me immense joy and healing.

Support InterPlay in bringing more play to the world.
